Visakhapatnam The NAD Flyover, which was built at a cost of Rs.150 crore, was finally inaugurated by Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday evening.

The inauguration was put off twice in the past due to sudden change in the itinerary of Reddy. The Chief Minister, who was here briefly to attend the marriage of a party functionary's relative and wedding reception of Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu's grand daughter also inaugurated works worth about Rs.250 crore taken up by Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) and Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC).

On arrival, he was given a rousing reception by the officials and the party functionaries and elected representatives including Ministers Dharmana Krishna Das, K. Kannababu, Muttamesetti Srinivasa Rao, Botsa Satyanarayana and YSRCP Parliamentary Party leader V. Vijaya Sai Reddy.

The works which were inaugurated by the Chief Minister included the multi-storeyed parking near the busy Jagadamba junction, VMRDA Park (erstwhile VUDA Park). These projects were originally scheduled to be inaugurated a year ago. The NAD Flyover, which decongests traffic from the city center to the Visakhapatnam International Airport and industrial areas of Gajuwaka, Kurmannapalem, Duvvada and Lankalapalem, has already been thrown open to the public. Few more works are now under completion. The work on the double rotary flyover was launched exactly four years ago. Originally it was estimated at Rs.113 crore and conceived during the erstwhile Telugu Desam Party Government. VMRDA Park spread over 33 acres was renovated at a cost of about Rs.33.5 crore. The G plus 5 multi-layer parking near Jagadamba junction was built at a cost of nearly Rs.11.5 crore. Under heritage conservation, Town Hall was given a facelift at a cost of Rs.4.25 crore and Old Municipal Office at a cost of Rs.7.16 crore, some master plan roads and community hall works.

District Collector A. Mallikarjuna said besides the flyover and VMRDA Park, all other works were inaugurated in virtual mode by the Chief Minister.
